About Us

Formed in 2019 by Lu Li (violin), Pin-Hsuan Chen (violin), Yu-Ting Huang (viola) and Wei-Shuan Yu (cello), the Lieto String Quartet is a rising ensemble based in Cincinnati, OH (USA). The Lieto Quartet gets its name from the Italian word “happy”, and their mission is to spread joy to every corner of the world. The quartet gained international acclaim when they won the Gold Prize and the Grand Prix in the 2021 Global Genius Music Competition in the United Kingdom, following which they published a recording on the website of True Art Music. The quartet won the First Place and the Audience Award in the 2021 Red Maple Music Competition, which resulted in a performance invitation in Canada in 2022. They also received the Second Prize in the 2021-2022 King’s Peak International Music Competition and Third Prize in the 2022 London Classical Music Competition. 

 

The quartet has been coached by Professor Lee Fiser, former member of the LaSalle Quartet and Emeritus Professor of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). The quartet has also received guidance from Professor Mark Gibson, director of orchestral studies at CCM, where the quartet members earned graduate degrees in performance. Their primary mentors include members of Ariel Quartet, LaSalle Quartet, Miami Quartet and Dover Quartet.

 

The quartet has performed regularly at Classical Revolution and as part of Music Live at Lunch, a 50-year historical concert series of Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati. It has also been invited as guest artists to perform with Cincinnati Ballet, as well as in faculty concerts at Wittenberg University and Cedarville University. In June 2023, the Lieto quartet performed as guest artists at the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, including a performance of Mendelssohn’s Octet alongside the world renowned Dover Quartet. In October 2023, the Lieto quartet will performed as quartet in residence at the Highlands -Cashiers Chamber Music Festival.
